How to Keep Your Dog's Paws Healthy

Did you know that dogs are prone to getting foot injuries? That's why it is so essential for dog moms and dads to make time to care for your dog's feet. Read on to see how you can practice good paw care for your beloved fur buddy.

Examine the Paws Often

Take time to examine your dog's feet, especially the area between the toes and the soft pad. You may notice that there are small rocks, sticks, or other debris stuck in the crevices of their paws. Use your fingers or tweezers to gently remove the debris.

Trim Nails

It is important to take the time to trim your dog's nails. When their nails are too long, it can increase their chances of getting injured and/or it can affect their movement - similarly to if you were to keep your toe nails long and never cut them. How do you know when you should trim your dog's nails? If you hear their nails scrape against the floor when your dog walks.

Moisturize Paws

When you take time to examine your dog's paws, you may notice that they are rough or cracked. If that's the case, you can consider investing in a balm or ointment specifically for dog paws. This can help keep your dog's paws smooth and to prevent any infections, itchiness, or pain. Make sure to purchase balms that are made with natural ingredients.

Supplements

There are many supplements out there that can help keep your dog's skin sooth and reduce flakiness and dryness. You can check out Petaxin Omega Care, which features omega oil, vitamin C & E, zinc, and biotin to help improve your dog's skin & support skin health in a flavor dogs love!

Keep Paws Dry

When your dog's paws are wet, the moisture can increase your dog's chance for fungal or bacterial infections. So after your dog runs on wet grass, steps in a puddle, goes for a swim, takes a bath, and so forth, make sure to use a towel to dry your dog's paws off. Scheduling regular check-ups at the vet can also help you check for possible infections of their paws and give them immediate treatment.
