5 Healthy Snacks to Give Your Dog

Got a new dog and have no clue what kind of healthy treats to give him? There are many types of doggy treats from store-bought to products right from your kitchen. Here are five different healthy snack options that you can give to your furry friends. Read on!

Five Healthy Dog Snacks

Here are four of the healthiest snack options you can prepare for your fur bud right in the comfort of your kitchen and one store-bought brand that we highly recommend:

1. Pumpkin

There are several health benefits of giving your dogs pumpkin to eat and one the best benefits is that it promotes a healthier gut. Since pumpkin has a lot of fiber, it can help your dog digest different types of food. In addition, many dogs tend to enjoy the taste and texture of pumpkin, especially when it is cooked and pureed. We recommend mixing into your dog’s food only about one to two spoons of the pumpkin puree since it is packed with fiber. If your dog eats too much fiber, it could cause an upset stomach, diarrhea, and other digestive discomforts.

2. Carrots

Dogs love munching on carrots because of its natural sweetness. Aside from being a tasty treat for your dog, they are also great for promoting good optical health since it includes vitamin B, which can help boost your dog’s eyesight. It also contains a good amount of vitamin E and K which are great for promoting blood clots to help your dog’s wounds to quickly heal.

3. Apples

Another tasty snack you can give to your dogs are apples! This fruit has natural sugars in them that make them very sweet and tasty to dogs. Aside from the taste, it also contains vitamins A and C which are great for your dog’s health. However, you must prepare the apples properly prior to feeding your dogs. Make sure to peel the skin and remove the core and seeds as these parts of the apple can be toxic to dogs. In addition, cut the apples into smaller bite size pieces to reduce the risk of your dog choking. Just like any snack though, balance is important. Since apples contain a significant amount of sugar, you should feed it to your dog in moderation.

4. Bananas

Just like the snacks mentioned above, bananas also contain a natural sweetness that dogs love! Aside from the taste, bananas are high in magnesium which are great for promoting their bone health. Since bananas are very sweet due to its high sugar content, make sure to feed it to your dogs in moderation as too much sugar can be bad for them. This fruit is a very common fruit that you can easily find in most grocery shores and is convenient to prepare for your dogs. You can feed your dogs about one to two bananas a week. Make sure to peel and cut the fruit into bite-sized pieces before feeding them.
